The majority of our visits take place in the homes of our clients. You may schedule a home visit, a virtual consultation, or even meet at an office depending on your location!

Our team works hard to ensure that every parent can be seen as urgently as they feel is necessary. Generally we are able to provide service within 48 hours, either virtually or in-person. Once you are working with one of our lactation consultants, they will ensure that you are seen as frequently as necessary.

Our lactation consultants understand the sacred privilege we are given when we are invited into the homes of our clients. Be assured that every Milk Guide lactation consultant will be respectful of your family’s home and your cultural/religious practices.

During a home visit, your lactation consultant will sit with you to discuss your goals and past experience in relation to how you would like to feed your baby. They will provide you with the most current information related to infant feeding and help you troubleshoot any issues. They may also help you connect with other local resources when necessary.

You can expect your consultant to arrive with their infant scale, their consult bag, and their laptop/ipad/phone for documentation.

Please do not feel the need to clean or tidy before your lactation consultant arrives. We are passionate about meeting families where they are at and will never judge anyone on the state of their home.

During a virtual consultation, your lactation consultant will meet with you via Practice Better, our HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. They will discuss your goals and past experience in relation to how you would like to feed your baby. They will provide you with the most current information related to infant feeding and help you troubleshoot any issues. They may also help you connect with other local resources when necessary.

At the Milk Guide Breastfeeding Center in Osceola, we provide a space that is clean, warm, and safe for families seeking support. Just like a home visit, your lactation consultant will sit with you to discuss your goals and past experience in relation to how you would like to feed your baby. They will provide you with the most current information related to infant feeding and help you troubleshoot any issues. They may also help you connect with other local resources when necessary.

Yes! Meeting with your lactation consultant prenatally is highly recommended! This gives you a chance to go over what to expect, current recommendations, and discuss any anxieties you may have before baby arrives. This is also billable to insurance!

Milk Guide lactation consultants realize that a fed baby is absolutely essential. Therefore we do not formula-shame and seek to help educate parents when it comes to any sort of supplementation. Our consultants can work with you for your individual needs, even with babies who are exclusively formula fed!

Milk Guide consists of a diversely talented team of lactation professionals.

Our team includes:

  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (considered the gold standard for lactation support).
  • Certified Lactation Counselors, Certified Lactation Specialists, Certified Breastfeeding Specialists, and other similar credentials. Those with this type of credentialing are in the process of obtaining their IBCLC and have oversight from more seasoned team members as they serve their communities.

Many of our consultants also maintain other professional credentials like RN, RDN, SLP, and have various degrees in the healthcare field.

Select members of our team can provide you with a functional oral assessment for babies who have been diagnosed with tongue, lip, or cheek ties. They can also connect you with essential resources before a diagnosis is obtained.

Milk Guide Lactation Consultants are always learning and growing. Attending conferences, taking trainings, and continuing their education is a top priority. You may check out the qualifications of each lactation consultant here: https://www.milkguide.com/pages/about-milk-guide.

Out of respect for the safety of our lactation consultants we require that any firearms be secured during the consultation. If a consultant feels unsafe or threatened at any time, they may leave the premises immediately.

We ask that any pets be put in another room during an in-home lactation consultation. Some furry family members aren’t great with personal space which can be tricky for the consultant when examining/assessing and documenting.

Many of our consultants see multiple families in a day and this helps reduce issues that may arise for families with allergies. We thank you for your understanding!
